Prime rib is a fancy cut of meat that doesn’t need much done to it to make it taste delicious. Seven bones stretched across a cow’s side between the shoulder chuck and the short loin makes up the beef rib roast. It is usually split into to two cuts. The chuck end is typically fattier and a more irregular shape. The short loin end is slightly less fatty but more tender and uniform. J. Alexander’s prime rib beef hails from the Midwest, where pronounced seasonal changes lead to more marbling, which makes the cut tender, juicy, and flavorful.

Prime rib has several nutritious aspects. Three ounces of roast prime rib contains 19.2 grams of protein or about a third of the recommended daily amount of protein. Prime rib contains all nine essential amino acids and is high in the essential amino acid threonine, which is important for healthy liver function, and is also high in zinc. One serving provides 42 percent of the dietary reference intake, or DRI, for zinc for men and 57 percent for women. One serving of prime rib also supplies 21 percent of the DRI for phosphorus and more than 10 percent of the DRI for potassium and iron. Prime rib is also high in B-12, niacin, and B-6.
